L'Eremo di S. Caterina del Sasso è uno dei più affascinanti luoghi storici del Lago Maggiore. Questo autentico balcone proteso verso il Golfo delle Isole Borromee si raggiunge dal lago, salendo una scalinata di 80 gradini oppure dal piazzale sovrastante, scendendo una panoramica scala di 240 gradini, o semplicemente usufruendo del comodo e moderno ascensore Situato su una scoscesa roccia a strapiombo sul Verbano, l'Eremo venne fondato nel XIII secolo dal mercante Alberto Besozzi di Arolo (Leggiuno), il quale, durante un naufragio, fece voto a S. Ad oggi è retto da un gruppo di Oblati Benedettini.
