I Turkana sono una popolazione nilotica che vive nel Distretto Turkana del Kenya settentrionale, una regione dal clima semi-arido che circonda il Lago Turkana. Le donne si radono li capelli tranne una fascia centrale dalla quale ricavano piccole trecce. Molto importanti sono le collane, create dalle ragazze e portate in gran numero. I colori delle perle hanno diversi significati, di norma le Turkana di Loyiangalani indossano collane coi colori nero, bianco, rosso e giallo.

@canopo: trovare degli sfondi adatti è stata forse la cosa più difficile, o un muro chiaro in ombra (come questo) oppure, per avere uno sfondo scuro, bisognava chiedere al soggetto di mettersi sulla soglia di una porta (vedi questa foto www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?t=1227571&l=it), cosa che si poteva fare solo a Loyiangalani perché le capanne Turkana hanno porte molto basse.
