Polyommatus icarus (Rottemburg, 1775) - Famiglia Lycaenidae - Sottofamiglia Polyommatinae - Apertura alare: Da 2,5 a 3,2 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutta Italia, ad eccezione di Sicilia e Sardegna. - Habitat: Presente in tutti i tipi di ambiente, dalla pianura fino a 2500 m. - Periodo di volo: Polivoltina con tre generazioni che si susseguono da metà aprile a metà settembre. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Trifoglio e piccole leguminose. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Vistosa differenza nell'aspetto tra maschi, con diritto azzurro, e femmine marroni con lunule marginali arancioni e con rovescio simile al maschio. - Variazioni: Alcune femmine possono essere parzialmente azzurrate sul diritto delle ali e presentare una riduzione delle macchie arancioni marginali.
