bell'idea la foto a luce scarsa; quando passai da lì nel gennaio 1992 impedivano di uscire di notte per il pericolo ancora molto presente di mine dalla guerra Khmer; siccome il mio gruppo pervicacemente insistette per sfruttare il tempo disponibile per le visite, fino a tarda sera, quando arrivammo poi in hotel trovammo le stanze date via mezzora prima ad un gruppo rampante di tedeschi; ci diedero quindi delle amache o, per i più fortunati, le stanze della servitù. La scelta fu con estrazione a sorte ed io fui tra questi ultimi baciati dalla sorte, anche se poi la zanzariera era rotta, l'acqua nel bagno era di colore marrone e scacciai un bel ragno nero piuttosto grande.

The choice was a drawing of lots and I was among the latter kissed by fate, even though the screen door was broken, the water in the bath was brown and I pushed quite a rather large black spider.
