Situato su un'altura appena fuori dal paese, circondato da secolari castagni, il santuario di Trana (Val Sangone) è caratterizzato dal suo altissimo campanile costruito nel 1885 che misura ben 53 metri di altezza. Il sito dove oggi sorge il santuario un tempo accoglieva l'antica chiesa parrocchiale, di cui si hanno notizie fin dall'anno Mille, che si decise di trasferire nel centro del paese nel 1621. Correva l'anno 1768, era il 2 settembre, il parroco, il medico e il farmacista erano saliti fino ai ruderi dell'antica chiesa parrocchiale per verificare a che punto era la maturazione delle castagne quando videro apparire la Madonna vestita di bruno. La notizia fece subito il giro del paese e sul luogo si decise di costruire una cappella, all'interno venne posta alla venerazione dei fedeli una statua della Madonna nera, sul modello di quella del famoso santuario di Oropa. La cappella era molto frequentata dai contadini locali, l'11 agosto 1772 proprio lì vicino un certo Goovanni Lanza di Piossasco venne morsicato da una vipera, disperato si rifugiò a pregare nella chiesetta ed ecco che anche lui apparve la Madonna che gli parlò e lo rassicurò, l'uomo corse in paese a raccontare l'accaduto e lo stesso medico a cui quattro anni prima era apparsa la Madonna salì sul posto e trovò la vipera morta, verificò i segni del morso sulla mano del Lanza e gli disse che era in pericoli di vita ma l'uomo non aveva più sintomi di malessere. Dopo questa seconda apparizione si decise di costruire il santuario che venne realizzato in soli tre anni: fu inaugurato il 10 settembre 1775. Il santuario di Trana si trova a poca distanza da quello dei laghi di Avigliana e come quest'ultimo nel passato era meta di numerose processioni votive che giungevano dai paesi della zona. Oggi di queste pratiche si è persa l'abitudine.
