Pontia edusa (Fabricius, 1777) Dimensioni: Apertura alare: 42 - 48 mm. Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 18-25 Descrizione della specie: Farfalla di medie dimensioni, la cui livrea ricorda molto quella delle cavolaie, superiormente bianca con disegni neri all'angolo anteriore e netta macchia sul limitare della cellula. La parte superiore delle ali anteriori ha colore di fondo bianco ed una macchia discale nera che si estende fino alla costa; sono anche presenti macchie marginali apicali bianche. La parte inferiore ha ali posteriori marmorizzate bianche e verdi. Simile alla femmina dell'Aurora (Anthocharis cardamines), morfologicamente molto simile a P. daplidice, da cui è distinta geneticamente; tuttavia le due specie possono frequentemente dare origine ad ibridi. La sua posizione sistematica è stata rivista solo recentemente, per cui in alcuni testi è possibile ritrovarla sotto il vecchio binomio di Pontia daplidice. Dimorfismo sessuale: macchie scure più marcate e più presenti nelle femmine. Maschio: Colore bianco con macchia discocellulare nera nelle ali anteriori e disegni neri o grigi all'apice delle stesse. Nelle posteriori traspare in grigio il disegno del rovescio Femmina: Simile al maschio ma con disegni neri più estesi che interessano anche le ali posteriori. Stadi giovanili: le uova sono deposte principalmente sulla parte superiore delle foglie delle Piante Nutrici. Bruco: colorazione di fondo bluastra sulla quale fanno spicco strisce longitudinali gialle. I bruchi usualmente si cibano dei fiori ed assumono frequentemente forme di parassitismo con Apanteles spp., di solito A. glomeratus (Hymenoptera); L'ibernazione avviene allo stadio di crisalide. Piante nutrici: Brassicaceae (Arabis spp., Sisymbrium spp.) Reseda lutea, Diplotaxis tenuifolia, Sisynbrium officinalis, Sinapsi avensis Distribuzione e habitat: Specie euricora, si rinviene in diversi ambienti dal livello del mare al piano montano, ghiaioni e prati aridi, 0-2300 m. Tutta Italia esclusa la Sardegna e la Liguria occidentale. Periodo di attività: da marzo ad ottobre con due-quattro generazioni annuali.
