Quello che si vede è il "Cristo Lungo" detto in siciliano "U Cristu Longo " a Castroreale (ME), festeggiato il Mercoledì santo, venerdì santo, 24 e 25 agosto. La peculiarità di questo Cristi è di trovarsi issato su un asta alta ben 14 metri. che, come si evince dalla foto, supera lo stessa torre campanaria. Esso viene trasportato da una chiesa vicina , Chiesa di S.Agata, per essere trasportato fino al duomo dove verrà celebrata una messa. Le aste che si vedono, sono maneggiate da alcuni devoti che con queste bilanciano l'asta quando attraversa le strettissime vie del paese. La sua tradizione circa le origine della festa si fa risalire al 1854 quando una terribile epidemia di peste falciò molte persone nel messinese allorché alcune persone si allontanarono da Messina rifugiandosi nelle campagne e nei monti. Una donna giunse a Castroreale, provocando il panico ma i castrorealesi rivolgendo fervide preghiere al Crocifisso, restarono immuni dal contagio. Alcuni studiosi di religione e antropologia tuttavia ritengono che il palo ,che tiene che tiene issato il Cristo, sia di origini molto più arcaiche, ipotizzando rituali millenari di origine agraria-ctonia di culti arborei poi cristianizzati con l'avvento del Cristianesimo.
