A Vicoforte la forma stessa della Basilica, ellittica o "ovata", è barocca. Meglio del cerchio ( forma rinascimentale, classica, ritenuta perfetta, ma statica e ferma ), l'ovale risponde alla raffigurazione della divinità, perché formata da tre cerchi intersecantesi con eguale distanza dai loro centri. La volontà di stupire e di meravigliare si accompagna ad un perfetto equilibrio formale che determina una visione serena e gioiosa dell'insieme: leggiadria e serenità sono le caratteristiche dell'armonica visione dell'interno del tempio. La maturità del Barocco del Santuario di Vicoforte si nota anche nella limitazione degli eccessi: gesti controllati, espressioni non plateali, articolazioni compositive non aggrovigliate o contorte, modulati giochi di luce. Tutto è moderato pur nell'eleganza dello sfarzo e nella preziosità dei materiali che bene definiscono il fasto del Barocco. E' il Barocco di Francesco Gallo che completa l'ardito progetto rimasto incompiuto per oltre mezzo secolo.
