Oggi mi trovavo al porto di Catania e per puro caso mi sono imbattuto nelle operazioni di primo soccorso di un barcone di clandestini provenienti dall'Africa. Prendo la reflex e scappo. Sono venuti a bordo di una "carrette del mare" o come diavolo vengono chiamati questi barconi pieni zeppi di gente. Stipati come animali, disperati come solo la miseria può farti disperare. E sarà che non sono abituato a vedere certe scene dal vivo o sarà perchè non mi reputo cosi cinico da mascherare la mie emozioni dietro l'obiettivo, ma giuro che non sono riuscito a fare più di una quindicina di scatti. Uno scatto, in particolare, mi ha proprio colpito e affondato. E' lo sguardo di questo ragazzo. Non so quanti anni abbia ma so per certo di aver percepito quanti ne dimostra. Quanto coraggio, quanta forza e quanta rassegnazione mi trasmette mi fa riflettere. Da qui il titolo della foto. "La speranza è l'ultima a morire". D'altronde....chi non lo penserebbe nei suoi panni?
