Il 15 gennaio 1771 il giovane Wolfang Amadeus Mozart nel suo primo viaggio in Italia giunse a Torino da Milano. Accompagnato dal papà Leopold si fermò, ospitato nell'albergo Dogana Nova stuato nell'attuale Via Corte d'Appello, fino al 31 dello stesso mese di gennaio. In quei quindici giorni i Mozart ebbero opportunità di incontrare illustri personaggi della nobiltà torinese ed importanti musicisti che all'epoca erano protagonisti attivi nella città. Nello stesso periodo il giovane compositore salisburghese ebbe occasione di esibirsi in un concerto in una delle sale, oggi denominata Sala Mozart, del prestigioso Palazzo Barolo, allora di proprietà dei Conti Provana.
