I Marchesi di Barolo sono stati una coppia fuori dall'ordinario: colta, cosmopolita, poliglotta, con una rete internazionale di rapporti. Si incontrarono alla corte di Napoleone. Erano illuministi, appassionati di cultura, pedagogia, economia, arte e politica, ma nel contempo erano profondamente religiosi. Appassionati di umanità: ciò che stava loro a cuore era la promozione dello sviluppo umano. Hanno espresso il loro carisma rispondendo ai bisogni sociali emergenti attraverso strategie di intervento integrato, ben oltre la beneficienza, realizzando a Torino e in Piemonte interventi pedagogici, sociali e politici, condividendo il loro patrimonio con i più poveri. Svilupparono pensiero e dialogo con i più importanti pensatori dell'epoca, diventando promotori di una nuova visione della società e di una politica innovativa. Perseguirono questo obiettivo per tutta la loro vita, ponendo le condizioni affinché il loro disegno potesse proseguire nel futuro. Non ebbero figli, ma la loro capacità di generare è dimostrata dal patrimonio, culturale ed economico, ancora oggi risorsa per la Città di Torino. Appunto L'OPERA PIA BAROLO.
