I primi decenni del Novecento rappresentano, per il Castello di Racconigi, un periodo importante che conclude la quasi millenaria storia della residenza, prima signorile poi principesca e al fine reale. Regolarmente frequentato sino alle soglie del secondo conflitto mondiale per le villeggiature estive degli ultimi Re d'Italia, Vittorio Emanuele III e Umberto II, ricevette ad opera di questi sovrani quelle trasformazioni che hanno definito l'assetto che, ancora oggi, caratterizza soprattutto gli interni cosicché singolarmente il fascino di questa reggia non si ferma alla data di trasferimento della capitale a Firenze e poi a Roma, qui rimane anche lo spirito un po' borghese del primo Regno d'Italia e non mancano spazi in cui si percepisce l'animo inquieto dell'ultimo periodo, prima del conflitto mondiale. Il carattere della residenza che colpisce a tutt'oggi è quello della ?grande casa vissuta': i fili e gli interruttori degli impianti elettrici di primo Novecento collocati con garbo sugli apparati decorativi, le eleganti e moderne sale da bagno con le monumentali rubinetterie localizzate in ambienti secondari, la distribuzione dei mobili e dei quadri, soprattutto al secondo piano, la contestuale presenza di stufe e fornelli di diverse epoche nelle cucine, l'elegante ascensore, comunicano il senso di una casa appena lasciata dai suoi storici abitanti, che ne avevano curato via via gli ammodernamenti. E con questo scatto termina la visita del castello.
