Alcune delle scene più interessanti che si possono osservare seguendo il ciclo dei Martin pescatori è la fase di apprendimento dei giovani. Dopo essere usciti dal nido e aver trascorso qualche giorno nelle vicinanze ancora alimentati dai genitori, i giovani martini prendono il volo e iniziano a vivere per conto proprio anche se possono convivere per qualche settimana ancora con i propri fratelli. Questo è uno dei pochi momenti dell'anno in cui si possono vedere più martini stare insieme sui posatoi ed esercitarsi nella pesca.
