Questa raccolta iconografica fu allestita dal principe ereditario Umberto II a partire dagli anni Venti del ?900 e costituisce un "percorso dinastico" unico nel suo genere. Al di là del valore storico, i ritratti conservati a Racconigi costituiscono anche un interessante documento sull'evoluzione del costume attraverso i secoli.
