Per questo nuovo allestimento il risultato più importante è stato il riunire i cinque grandi dipinti che fanno parte delle sei vedute prospettiche del castello di Rivoli, eseguite secondo i disegni progettati da Filippo Juvarra (il sesto dipinto, riprodotto fotograficamente in mostra, è esposto nel Palazzo Madama di Torino). Nel ?teatro delle fabbriche' del re Vittorio Amedeo II, il Castello di Rivoli giocava il ruolo più importante perché immaginato come il prototipo di un moderno palazzo reale per un sovrano assoluto. Per presentare il grandioso progetto di rifacimento del castello messo in cantiere fin dal 1717, Filippo Juvarra commissionò sei vedute che ne illustravano le quattro facciate esterne, il salone e l'atrio con lo scalone in costruzione. Ne disegnò egli stesso gli scorci prospettici e ne affidò l'esecuzione agli specialisti più acclamati del suo tempo, i pittori Giovanni Paolo Panini, Marco Ricci e Andrea Locatelli, affiancati dal piemontese Massimo Teodoro Michela. Le vedute furono dipinte tra 1723 e 1725 e subito allestite nella ?Camera delle prospettive', una sala dell'appartamento del re a Rivoli che Vittorio Amedeo II e Juvarra avevano fatto ornare di una decorazione a grottesche per evocare la Domus Aurea, la casa dell'imperatore. Nella prima tappa del suo Grand Tour in Italia nel 1728, in quella sala ebbe modo di vederle Montesquieu, il quale di fronte a quella straordinaria mostra di architettura poteva esclamare ammirato che "il progetto dei quattro lati dell'edificio sembra bellissimo". Di seguito, nei documenti del 1781 e del 1819, le vedute risultano presenti nel Palazzo Madama di Torino, mentre nel 1937 furono trasferite a Racconigi dal Principe di Piemonte, dove erano depositate in piccoli ambienti non accessibili al pubblico. Completano l'allestimento opere collegate alla figura di Vittorio Amedeo II, come il piano di tavolo e il ripiano del cassettone che riproducono la pianta della cittadella di Torino durante l'assedio del 1706, di Lorenzo Bononcelli, ed una serie di ritratti ed arredi provenienti dai depositi del castello.
