Rinnovato nel 1757 per opera dell'architetto Giovan Battista Borra nello stesso stile neoclassico della facciata meridionale, il salone d'ingresso, occupante il posto dell'antico cortile della fortezza medioevale coperto dal Guarini, è dedicato al mito di Ercole. Essendo l'ambiente più ampio del castello, era usato per accogliere gli ospiti e, grazie alle sue dimensioni e all'ottima acustica, come sala da ballo durante le serate mondane, in cui i sovrani e i loro ospiti ballavano, mentre l'orchestra suonava dalla loggia. Nella parte inferiore delle pareti sei nicchie contengono altrettante sculture attribuite allo stuccatore Giuseppe Bolina rappresentanti le fatiche di Ercole, quasi a richiamare le virtù eroiche e le imprese dei Savoia che per secoli dovettero lottare non solo con le armi, ma anche con una politica di alleanze e matrimoni, per poter mantenere il potere sui loro territori ambiti da Francia, Spagna e Austria. Nella parte superiore delle pareti altri stucchi, opera del Bolina e del Lombardi, raffigurano trofei di caccia, armi e attrezzi che rievocano l'arte venatoria. Il soffitto è dipinto con la tecnica a trompe l'oeil. Nel salone vi sono vasi cinesi in rame laccato e con decorazioni a smalto, risalenti alla prima metà dell'Ottocento. Durante l'ampliamento voluto da Carlo Alberto, il salone d'Ercole, la vicina sala di Diana e gli appartamenti cinesi non furono modificati e pertanto costituiscono l'unico esempio rimastoci di allestimento settecentesco nel castello.
