Durante la manutenzione di un cancello della cava, il piccolo scavatore urtava una vecchia cassetta in cemento
adibita a contenere il contatore del gas (non più in uso), incastonata nella adiacente siepe, spostandola dalla sua sede.
Al pomeriggio mentre valutavano il lavoro finito, si udivano rumori e lamenti di uccellini provenire dalla cassetta del gas. Conoscendo il proprietario,(io ero li per qualche scatto di avifauna), mi chiese di guardare nella cassetta incuriositi dai lamenti. Aprendo di poco lo sportello vidi questi piccoli di upupa, sicuramente un po' spaventati per i rumori e la nostra presenza e richiusi subito. Mi chiesi come l'upupa entrasse in questo nido di fortuna....l'unico ingresso era in fianco al tubo, ora ostruito perché la cassetta era fuori posto. Mentre riaprivamo lo sportello per rimetterla in sede ho scattato 5/6 foto per ricordare la nidificazione dell'upupa in quel luogo. Questa mattina passando in quella zona, mi sono fermato per vedere se i piccoli erano già usciti dal nido, il proprietario mi ha confermato che alla mattina presto se ne vedono sempre una decina.......
