L'Epiphyllum ackermannii è una pianta della famiglia delle Cactacee appartenete al genere Epiphyllum. Le piante di questo genere vivono in ambienti particolari, solitamente si trovano su alberi o su rocce ad altezze considerevoli. Le loro radici prendono il nutrimento necessario da un strato composto da muschio e varie sostanze tra cui residui animali e vegetali. Crescendo in questa posizione particolare viene difficilmente illuminata dal sole, infatti è quasi sempre coperta dall'ombra prodotta dalle foglie degli alberi.
