Chiamato anche il paese delle farfalle, Bordano è una località del gemonese ( in provincia di Udine ) famosa appunto per la presenza di numerosi e coloratissimi esemplari sul suo territorio estremamente ricco di biodiversità, situato tra il fiume Tagliamento, il Lago di Cavazzo, il Monte San Simeone, nella zona di passaggio tra il paesaggio prealpino e quello dell'alta pianura friulana. Per la sua particolarità geomorfologica, l'area intorno al paese ospita da sempre un grande numero di farfalle autoctone (oltre 100 specie diurne e 500 notturne), facendo della località un vero laboratorio a cielo aperto, da poter esplorare lungo facili percorsi attrezzati. A Bordano vi si trova La Casa delle Farfalle, piccola eccellenza friulana,un angolo di foresta tropicale nel Friuli Venezia Giulia; è considerata la più ampia esposizione di farfalle e insetti vivi in Italia, con 1.000 metri quadrati di serre-giardino riscaldate che riproducono i loro habitat naturali con piante ed animali esotici in cui sono ospitate più di 400 specie di farfalle provenienti da tutto il mondo La Casa delle Farfalle è anche un attivo centro didattico impegnato nel turismo scolastico al fianco di molti insegnanti per progettare e realizzare percorsi di visita alternativi, a completamento e approfondimento delle materie scientifiche. Uniche sono inoltre le case di Bordano impreziosite da murales raffiguranti gli insetti simbolo di questo paese, una tavolozza di colori a cielo aperto.
