Il Palazzo Carignano è sorto per volontà di Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia-Carignano, su progetto del padre teatino Guarino Guarini che ne ha iniziato la costruzione nel 1679. È uno dei più suggestivi ed imponenti palazzi del Seicento italiano, con facciata sinuosa e rivestimento in semplice mattone, preziosamente e originalmente lavorato. L'edificio era sorto nell'area adibita a scuderie dal principe Tommaso, capostipite del ramo cadetto Savoia-Carignano, ed aveva in origine una pianta a C aperta sui giardini; l'attuale struttura quadrangolare è dovuta all'aggiunta del corpo di fabbrica ottocentesco costruito per ospitare il Parlamento italiano, e terminato nel 1871, dopo lo spostamento della capitale a Roma. Il salone centrale ellittico situato nella parte seicentesca, già destinato alle feste, era stato trasformato nel 1848 in aula del Primo Parlamento Subalpino. Il Palazzo ospita nelle sale del piano nobile il Museo Nazionale del Risorgimento Italiano e al piano terreno la Soprintendenza per i Beni Storici, Artistici ed Etnoantropologici del Piemonte. Riaperto al pubblico, grazie al sostegno della Compagnia di San Paolo, nel 2011 con una mostra dedicata a Stefano Maria Legnani detto il Legnanino, il valente pittore che fra fine Sei e inizio Settecento ne ha decorato gli interni, dopo mezzo secolo è attualmente fruibile con un percorso stabile di visita all'appartamento di Mezzogiorno, detto anche dei Principi. Si tratta di un percorso concepito ?in divenire', destinato cioè ad ampliarsi e arricchirsi man mano che le indagini avviate dalla Soprintendenza, con l'apporto anche di studiosi esterni, aumenteranno il livello di conoscenza sul palazzo, sulle vicende e sui personaggi che lo hanno abitato. si consiglia la visione in alta risoluzione.
