Lycaena dispar ( Haworth, 1802) Dimensioni: Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 15-21, apertura alare 35-45 mm. Femmina generalmente più grande del maschio. Descrizione della specie: Nome Volgare: Licena delle paludi Famiglia: Lycaenidae piccola farfalla dal forte impatto visivo per la sua vivace livrea. La pagina inferiore delle ali è simile per entrambi i sessi, grigio-azzurra con fascia arancione e macchie nere, quella posteriore, e arancione vivace quella anteriore. E' proprio il colore di fondo arancione così vivace che distingue, a prima vista, questa Licena da altre specie affini. Maschio: colore rosso arancio lucente con sottili strie discocellulari nere e bordo nero. Nelle ali posteriori confluisce in piccoli punti rotondi presenti in ciascuna area internervulare. Bordo anale delle posteriori ampiamente sfumato di nero. Femmina: anteriori arancio con macchie puntiformi nere. Ali posteriori velate più o meno intensamente di nero. Rovescio: anteriori arancio con macchie puntiformi nere simili al dritto, ma più piccole e nette. Posteriori grigio chiare, con numerose macchie puntiformi nere circondate di bianco e ampia fascia submarginale arancio. Le larve svernanti hanno l'aspetto di Isopodi terrestri, mentre le pupe stanno in genere attaccate alla pianta ospite (Rumex) tramite una cintura serica (pupe succinte). Distribuzione e habitat: In Italia ha distribuzione centrosettentrionale, ma si ritrova ormai solo in alcune stazioni relitte., specie igrofila, si rinviene nei prati umidi del piano basale sino a 500 metri s.l.m. La specie è minacciata in tutto l'areale di distribuzione sebbene sia protetta in vari paesi d'Europa. La principale causa della diminuzione delle popolazioni è la totale scomparsa o la riduzione del loro habitat rappresentato da paludi, acquitrini e prati umidi. Anche la perdita delle tradizionali attività di gestione di questi ambienti con il regolare taglio delle canne ha portato ad un ulteriore riduzione delle popolazioni: infatti le canne impediscono la crescita di Rumex che è la pianta alimentare di questa specie. In Inghilterra ad esempio la sottospecie L. dispar dispar si estinse nel 1850 a causa del prosciugamento delle paludi e della cattura indiscriminata dei collezionisti; gli individui che vi si trovano oggi in alcune paludi appartengono alla sottospecie L. d. bavatus introdotta dall'Olanda. Periodo di attività: Generazioni annuali: tre con sfarfallamento in aprile-maggio, giugno-luglio e agosto-settembre.
