Il Biacco, chiamato anche "serpente frusta", è un serpente che può raggiungere i 2 metri di lunghezza, solitamente è di colore nero e giallo-verdognolo, ma in alcune zone dell'Italia, in particolare nel Sud, è di colore esclusivamente nero e non è velenoso. Può deporre dalle 6 alle 14 uova e spesso molti individui condividono la stessa tana. E' presente in tutta Italia e in alcune parti dell'Europa meridionale. E' un cacciatore veloce (può raggiungere anche 11 Km/h) e agile si nutre prevalentemente di lucertole, roditori e serpenti più piccoli, tra cui le vipere, al cui veleno è immune. Vive in una grande varietà di ambienti (boschi, pietraie, campagne, prati, siepi e anche in aree urbane) e si può trovare fino a circa 2000 metri di quota. Se minacciato tende a fuggire rapidamente in buche o fenditure rocciose, nel caso in cui sia impossibilitato alla fuga può mordere furiosamente, è considerato abbastanza aggressivo se in pericolo.
