La fortezza del Priamàr venne costruita dalla Repubblica di Genova tra il 1542 e il 1544.Per far posto ai poderosi bastioni, che valorizzano la posizione strategica del colle, si distrusse uno dei quartieri più importanti della città bassomedievale comprendente tra l'altro, la cattedrale, il palazzo vescovile, il convento domenicano, le dieci chiese delle confraternite, il castello di S. Maria. Altre importanti trasformazioni vennero realizzate nel 1683-85 e nelcorso del XVIII secolo; nella Fortezza, utilizzata in seguito come reclusorio, venne incarcerato nel 1830-31 Giuseppe Mazzini che qui ideò la Giovine Italia. #Notturni
