Grey-crested Helmetshrike by Rich Lindie sent on April 16, 2015 (12:09) by RockjumperBirdingTours. 0 comments, 358 views. Latest news from Rich Lindie, who's still leading what sounds to be an exceptionally successful Kenya & Tanzania ? Birds & Big Game I tour. "We're up in the Kenyan highlands now, sitting with a trip list of almost 450 species! But it's not just the quantity of birds we've seen that's amazing, it's the quality! I can think of few places where there are so many colourful birds of such variety in size and shape as here in East Africa. Longclaws, whydahs, waxbills, bishops, sunbirds, hornbills, bee-eaters, kingfishers, starlings, bushshrikes, lovebirds, barbets, twinspots, rollers, turacos and even francolins / spurfowl sporting bright colours - we've seen them all! On the mammal side, thousands upon thousands of hoofed animals, the "big five", and a Serval hunting in view of our chalets at Amboseli are among the highlights. Then there are the rarities including Brown-chested Alethe, Grey-crested Helmetshrike (see Rich's classic image of this funky species), Karamoja Apalis and Hinde's Babbler...it's almost too much, and we still have 6 days to go!"
