Melanargia russiae (Esper, 1783) Dimensioni: il maschio ha una apertura alare di 26-30 mm. Descrizione della specie: è superficialmente simile alle altre specie del genere Melanargia, la differenza più vistosa tra Melanargia galathea e Melanargia russiae è costituita dal disegno all'interno della cellula discoidale dell'ala anteriore che in M.galathea è interamente bianca, mentre in M.russiae è barrata a metà da un linea nera. La cosa è visibile sia sul diritto che sul rovescio. Esso sverna allo stadio larvale. Le larve si nutrono Brachypodium , Poa , Stipa pennata e Aegilops geniculata . Distribuzione e habitat: popolazioni sparse in Spagna, Portogallo, Francia sud-orientale, Russia meridionale, Caucaso e Siberia occidentale, in Italia è molto locale in Appennino, Lazio e sud di Puglia e Lucania; in Sicilia, spesso di grandi dimensioni. Questa specie vola a 1000-1600m in luoghi erbosi di montagna, anche se soprattutto nel mese di luglio in luoghi rocciosi. Periodo di attività: una generazione all'anno. Gli adulti volano da giugno ad agosto, Luogo di ritrovamento: Lago di Rascino
