Nome scientifico: Leptidea sinapis (Linnaeus, 1758) Dimensioni: Apertura alare: 40 - 50 mm. Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 17-26. Descrizione della specie: Si riconosce per la taglia relativamente piccola e per le ali di color bianco puro con disegni grigi; sulla parte superiore i maschi presentano una caratteristica macchia grigia all'apice delle ali anteriori. Le parti inferiori delle ali sono tinte di giallo e su quelle posteriori vi sono disegni grigi accanto alle nervature. Clava antennale nera sulla punta e bianca (nei maschi) o grigia (nelle femmine) alla base. Il volo lieve, rasente al suolo, è irregolare e poco vigoroso, fluttua pigramente nei boschi soleggiati . È una specie molto sensibile ai cambiamenti ambientali in quanto, essendo poco mobile, non è in grado di ricolonizzare altri ambienti. Dimorfismo sessuale: la parte superiore delle femmine è priva della macchia grigia all'apice delle ali anteriori ed al suo posto ha solamente delle striature grigio pallide. Maschio: ali di forma allungata. Colore bianco, macchia apicale nera o grigia nelle ali anteriori. Posteriori con vaghi disegni nervulari grigiastri non sempre presenti. Femmina: simile al maschio ma macchia apicale delle anteriori ridotta a tratti nervulari o totalmente obliterata. Stadi giovanili: le uova vengono deposte singolarmente sulla parte inferiore della foglia e si schiudono dopo circa due settimane.
