La Moschea del Sultano Ahmet è conosciuta come Moschea Blu per le sue meravigliose maioliche di Iznik che rivestono le pareti interne: oltre 21.000 piastrelle in ceramica dalle diverse tonalità di azzurri e blu ricoprono l'interno della moschea trasformandola in una vera e propria opera d'arte. La sacralità e bellezza della moschea è accentuata dalle decine di lampade che scendono dall'alto a formare cerchi di luce particolarmente suggestivi. Con i suoi imponenti minareti e la forma aggraziata, la moschea venne realizzata dal sultano esattamente di fronte ad Aya Sofia per competere in bellezza e grandiosità con l'opera di Giustiniano.
