Il fiume Roja nasce in territorio francese dal Colle di Tenda (1908 m), riceve l'apporto di vari torrenti, nel primo tratto scorre in un alveo molto ripido con sembianze di torrente alpino. Successivamente, in diversi tratti scorre in gole molto spettacolari, in particolare nel comune di Saorge forma delle spettacolari gole scavate nella roccia e la corrente del fiume aumenta notevolmente. L'immagine riprende il tratto terminale di una delle gole. Nel periodo estivo è uno dei punti di ritrovo di bagnati e tuffatori. Dimenticavo poi entra in territorio italiano, divide in due la cittadina di Ventimiglia e sfocia nel Mar Ligure.
