Mangiare in santa pace è, fra i felini, prerogativa dei leoni e dei leopardi, non per i ghepardi che non portano la preda sopra gli alberi e hanno poche armi di difesa a terra. Così debbono mangiare il più velocemente possibile ma non è facile. E' nota la velocità nel catturare le prede ma quando corre così forte il suo corpo si surriscalda parecchio, il cuore pompa all'impazzata e se non recupera raffreddandosi può collassare e morire. Ma così facendo il tempo passa e i furbi, iene, sciacalli o avvoltoi come in questo caso sono i primi ad approfittare. Ha provato il poveretto a scacciarli ma più ne scacciava e altrettanti dal cielo ne arrivavano, ci ha dato per un bel po' ma, anche perché solo, ha dovuto infine desistere. Tanta fatica per qualche boccone; ciò spiega perché il ghepardo caccia pressoché ogni giorno.
