Si entra in Armeria attraverso il grande Scalone monumentale costruito nel 1740 dall'architetto Benedetto Alfieri, come collegamento tra gli Appartamenti Reali e le Segreterie di Stato (attuale sede della Prefettura). Da qui attraverso una lunga galleria si potevano raggiungere il Teatro Regio e quindi gli Archivi di Corte. Lo Scalone è ornato di sculture in marmo di varie epoche: i nove bassorilievi raffiguranti mostri marini sono opera di scuola milanese del primo Cinquecento; i due busti maschili sopra le porte che conducevano alle Segreterie presentano due teste antiche di Marco Aurelio e Demostene; i due busti femminili sono opera del primo Settecento e sono attribuiti a Pierre Le Gros. Nella nicchia centrale si trova una statua di Minerva in marmo greco.
