I colori diversi delle case, che oggi sono diventati la caratteristica principale dell'isola, una volta servivano a delimitare le proprietà. Esiste tuttavia una "leggenda" legata al carattere variopinto dell'isola, la quale narra che erano i pescatori a dipingere la propria casa, al fine di riconoscerla da lontano durante i lunghi periodi di assenza dovuti alla pesca.
