Rafforzare i legami familiari fra i leoni è fondamentale per la sopravvivenza del branco. Di mamma ce n'è una sola ma non per questi felini; tutte le femmine adulte del branco si prendono cura dei cuccioli anche se non sono propri, se hanno latte li allattano, ci giocano e a turno li curano quando le altre femmine sono a caccia.
Solo quando i cuccioli sono molto piccoli come in questo caso ovvero quando c'è una disputa fra maschi per la dominanza del branco le madri si isolano portando i cuccioli in sicurezza. Se un maschio dominante perde il suo territorio a favore di un estraneo, questo uccide immediatamente i cuccioli per mandare le femmine in calore così da poter procreare una nuova generazione con i suoi geni.
Strengthen family ties among the lions is crucial for the survival of the pack.
