Olio su tela 158 x 124 cm L'opera è stata soggetta a una lunga e spinosa controversia critica, che sembra ormai risolta a favore di Pietro Muttoni, o della Vecchia, con una datazione intorno alla metà del XVII secolo. Parte delle difficoltà attributive sono da ricondurre alla ben nota capacità di Muttoni, pittore, copista e mercante veneziano, d'imitare la maniera altrui, fino alla falsificazione. In questo caso il confronto migliore può stabilirsi con la coeva Allegoria della Prudenza, ora nella Pinacoteca Egidio Martini del Museo di Ca' Rezzonico a Venezia, che Muttoni copiò da un perduto affresco assegnato ora a Giorgione ora a Tiziano un tempo nel Palazzo Loredan Grimani di San Marcuola. L'opera, proveniente dalla quadreria viennese del principe Eugenio di Savoia Soissons, fu acquisita da Carlo Emanuele III di Savoia nel 1741.
