L'attuale edificio di Santa Maria di Castello è una basilica romanica a tre navate con transetto e tre absidi edificata nel primo quarto del XII secolo ad opera di maestranze antelamiche. L'aspetto primitivo della chiesa è stato in parte alterato dalle ristrutturazioni dei secoli XV e XVI. Cappella di San Tommaso D'Aquino - Fondata nel 1449 da Giovanni Giustiniani troviamo a destra l'altare marmoreo opera di Giovanni Maria Pambio (1595) e la tela di Domenico Piola che raffigura San Tommaso D'Aquino in adorazione del Santissimo Sacramento mentre compone l'ufficio del Corpus Domini (1660). In alto tela con Santa Caterina da Genova (XVIII) opera del Maestro di S.Maria di Castello. Sullo sfondo il bellissimo Altare dell'Annunciazione con il baldacchino marmoreo quattrocentesco e polittico di Giovanni Mazone. HDR su 5 esposizioni #HDR #Chiese #Churches
