La volta della chiesa di Sant'Ignazio a Roma viene affrescata da Andrea Pozzo tra il 1691 e il 1694.La scena è ambientata in un tempio celeste classicheggiante, totalmente aperto verso l'alto dove si svolge l'azione principale: Sant'Ignazio è accolto in cielo dalle tre Persone della Trinità, immerse in una luce abbagliante. Dio Padre, la colomba dello Spirito Santo e soprattutto la figura di Cristo, essendo poste nel punto più alto della cupola ideale, sono rappresentati in modo sommario, con pochi tratti, accentuando l'idea che si trovino a grande distanza da chi guarda. Dal petto di Sant'Ignazio si irradiano fasci di luce che raggiungono le allegorie dei quattro continenti poste sui lati: tale rappresentazione è simbolo della vocazione missionaria dell'Ordine dei Gesuiti, cui fa riferimento anche l'iscrizione sul lato sinistro della volta. Qui infatti Andrea Pozzo dipinge un gruppo di angeli che regge un cartiglio con la scritta: "Ignem veni mittere in terram", che richiama appunto la diffusione in tutta la Terra del fuoco del Vangelo attraverso l'opera dei Gesuiti. Sul lato destro della volta di Sant'Ignazio un angelo alimenta un grande braciere, il cui fuoco allo stesso tempo illumina la strada dei bisognosi e caccia i malvagi dalla visione celeste. Le figure della volta sono dipinte con grande attenzione al colore e ai passaggi di luminosità. La luce infatti contribuisce in modo determinante alla creazione di quel senso di vertigine che Andrea Pozzo voleva appunto suscitare nello spettatore. #Monumenti #Churches #Interni #LuoghiDiCulto
