L'Opera dei Pupi è un tipo di teatro delle marionette i cui protagonisti sono Carlo Magno e i suoi paladini. Le gesta di questi personaggi sono trattate attraverso la rielaborazione del materiale contenuto nei romanzi e nei poemi del ciclo carolingio. Le marionette sono appunto dette pupi (dal latino "pupus" che significa bambino). L'opera è tipica della tradizione siciliana dei cuntastori (da non confondere con i "cantastorie" che narravano fatti di cronaca). Nel 2008 l'UNESCO ha iscritto l'Opera dei Pupi tra i Patrimoni Orali e Immateriali dell'Umanità, dopo averla originariamente proclamata nel 2001. È stato il primo Patrimonio italiano a esser inserito in tale lista.
