Olio su tela 260 x 402 cm Il dipinto venne realizzato da Tiepolo qualche anno dopo il 1718, ovvero durante la sua fase giovanile. La committenza si lega alle nozze tra Alvise Zenobio e Alba Soranzo, celebrate appunto nel 1718. Il soggetto è tratto dalla storia di Zenobia, regina di Palmira, punita da Aureliano perché, una volta rimasta vedova, aveva usurpato il potere che un tempo era stato concesso al marito Odenato. La fonte risiede nell'Historia Augusta di Flavio Vopisco, qui probabilmente integrata dalla lettura del De Claris Mulieribus di Giovanni Boccaccio. La tela in origine faceva parte di un ciclo decorativo per una sala al piano nobile del palazzo veneziano della famiglia Zenobio ai Carmini, che, appunto ispirato alla storia di Zenobia, fu successivamente smembrato: gli elementi che lo costituivano si trovano oggi in varie sedi museali. Transitata nella collezione romana del cardinale Fesch, l'opera pervenne alla Galleria Sabauda nel 1869 per lascito del cavaliere Francesco Marsengo.
