Ho scelto di mettere questa foto in reportage di viaggio, perchè ha più un valore documentativo che non paesaggistico, nè tantomeno tecnico. Si tratta di una foto fatta scappando dall'auto in movimento. In questo frangente noi stavamo muovendoci verso sud, mentre il tornado compie la sua incredibile manovra iniziando a muoversi verso nord-est dopo aver proseguito a sud-est per diversi minuti (nella prima foto della galleria si trova tutta la storia di questo tornado) e sempre in questi istanti inizia ad ingigantirsi. Fino a pochi momenti prima ci trovavamo immediatamente a est del tornado, zona in cui questo era totalmente oscurato alla vista dalle spesse bande di pioggia (la zona nera sulla destra). Muovendoci verso sud, la visuale si è via via pulita e ha iniziato ad apparire l'enorme tornado che ha poi finito per attraversare la strada 300 metri dietro di noi, lasciandoci illesi, ma travolgendo chi si trovava a nord-est. A fine evento il tornado fu classificato come EF5, il più violento in assoluto, sulla base dei rilevamenti del radar doppler che misurarono velocità di picco di 480 km/h (teoriche ricavate dai modelli sino a 520-540 km/h!). Restò classificato come EF5 per 3 mesi, finchè il governo americano decise di declassarlo a EF3 in quanto non vennero trovati danni di grado superiore...per forza, il tornado fu in aperta campagna! La formalità vuole che la classificazione dei tornado avvenga solo sulla base dei danni e non su eventuali rilevamenti radar (per una serie di ragioni), quindi oggi ufficialmente il tornado lo si trova classificato EF3. In realtà tutti sanno che fu EF5... #supercella #tornado #temporale
