Olio su tela 411,6 x 474,5 cm Il dipinto, realizzato nel 1555-1556, inaugurò la celebre serie delle Cene di Paolo Veronese, vertice della sua produzione giovanile, quando cioè il pittore muoveva i primi passi sulla scena veneziana con la decorazione del soffitto della sacrestia e della navata di San Sebastiano. La tela fu realizzata per il refettorio del monastero dei Santi Nazaro e Celso a Verona, dov'era inserita in un complesso apparato decorativo, probabilmente ad affresco. Venduta per una cifra elevatissima alla metà del Seicento a Giovanni Filippo Spinola, l'opera fu portata a Genova con l'impegno di fare eseguire una copia destinata a sostituire l'originale. Documentata nella collezione Durazzo dal 1739, fu acquistata da Carlo Felice nel 1824 e raggiunse Torino nel 1837, nonostante le opposizioni dei genovesi.
