Un villaggio artistico sorto sulle rovine di un borgo medioevale abbandonato, spicca su una sinuosa collina alle spalle di Sanremo dando un'immagine suggestiva ed irreale di sè .Nel 1887 un violento terremoto colpì l'entroterra sanremese danneggiando gravemente Bussana Vecchia. Il paese venne abbandonato. Il borgo da allora non fu più abitato, sino all'insediamento della comunità di artisti, iniziato a partire dagli anni Sessanta,. Il paese è stato riportato alla vita da artisti provenienti da tutto il mondo, che vi hanno lavorato e tuttora vi svolgono la loro attività.
