Hello Saroukai and Jean, nice to see you around, I also wish you an happy new year 2015 with plenty of nice and new photos. I just came back from Tenerife, one of the most touristic island in the world. Tenerife is a multi-face island with hidden beautiful nature, good wines, culture and extraordinary climat. There is also another face I just hate. Playa de la americas, this the perfect example of how you create mass industry tourism. Anyway outside the tourism-business they have been clever enough to preserve about 50% of the Island and the National Park of Teide (UNESCO) is part of the most beautiful landscapes I've seen in my life. After Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa in Hawaii, from its base on the ocean floor, Teide is the third highest volcano on a volcanic ocean island in the world. With 3718 meters Tenerife is among the 10 highest islands in the world. After Madeira, Tenerife is my second island I've visited. Canaries, Acores, Madeira and Cap Verde are all part of a same geological and oceanic region named Macaronesia. For people who like hiking, Macaronesia islands offer fantastic trails and diversity in beautiful and unique landscapes. If I'm still alive for sure I want to visit other islands, Canaries offer 7 islands, each with different faces and from what I've read Acores and Cape Verde have also very promising landscapes to discover. I've visited both Madeira and Tenerife in December - January, normally it's the raining season but in a total of 4 weeks I've spent in both islands, I've got only one raining day. I think the best time to visit Macronesian islands is from December to April when you can see green landscapes and nice light, the temperature is also very pleasant for hiking. Of course if your goal is to enjoy beaches and aquatic entertainment, July and August will be more appropriate. Anyway for me there are much better islands in the world for beaches and warm waters as the atlantic water in this region is showing low variation between summer and winter and the water will never be over 22C°. Should be higher in Cape Verde because of its southern position. Greetings, Francis |
