Nome scientifico: Argynnis paphia ( Linnaeus, 1758 ) Dimensioni: Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 30-36 Descrizione della specie: bella farfalla dalle ali di colore arancio. Le ali anteriori presentano tre tipici solchi bruni longitudinali paralleli, che hanno squame odorose. Il rovescio è di colore giallo arancio con maculature nere. Le femmine possono avere le ali anche di colore verdognolo. Maschio: Ali di forma slanciata. Colore arancio con disegno maculare nero. Presenti quattro tratti androconiali sporgenti di colore nero lungo le nervature dalla terza mediana all'anale delle ali anteriori. Rovescio: Ali anteriori di colore giallo arancio con apici più chiari e leggero disegno maculare nero che diviene verdastro nella zona apicale. Posteriori di colore verdastro con spazi trasversali argentei. Femmina: Simile al maschio ma generalmente più grande e con ali di forma più arrotondata. Colore giallo arancio con velatura basale verdastra, disegno a macchie nere più grosse e priva di androconi. Nelle popolazioni alpine sono frequenti femmine di colore grigiastro. Bruco: il bruco è bruno scuro con due fasce giallo aranciate sul dorso e spine bruno rossicce Piante nutrici: Viola canina, Viola reichenbachiana Distribuzione e habitat: diffusa in Europa, Nordafrica e Asia temperata fino al Giappone. Tutta Italia isole comprese. Specie sciafila, frequenta i margini dei boschi e le radure dal piano basale a quello montano fino a circa 1800 metri s.l.m. Periodo di attività: Una sola generazione annuale, con sfarfallamento degli adulti in giugno-luglio. fonte web ( Silvio Sorcini)
