Generalmente le fotocamere consentono un intervallo di variazione pari a -20 +20 rispetto al punto di messa a fuoco. Una volta trovato il valore numerico che consente di ottenere l'immagine in assoluto più nitida (quindi quella più a fuoco) la fotocamera consente di salvare questo valore associandolo all'obbiettivo in questione.
