Dopo aver digitalizzato la diapositiva ho tagliato la parte inferiore, in cui c'era una zona buia troppo estesa, quindi ho reimpaginato in formato 4:3. In quest'immagine sono visibili tre edifici che rappresentano le tre principali fasi stilistiche del grattacielo americano dal 1900 al 1970 circa. Da destra verso sinistra abbiamo: il Met Life Tower (Napoleon LeBrun & Sons, 1909), tipico rappresentante dello stile storicistico-eclettico, chiaramente ispirato al campanile veneziano di S. Marco (su esplicita richiesta del presidente delle assicurazione Met Life); il Metropolitan Life North Building (Harvey Wiley Corbett & D. Everett Waid, 1928-1950) caratterizzato da un linguaggio "deco" e che altro non è che la parte basamentale di un grattacielo destinato ad essere il più alto del mondo (la crisi del '29 ne impedì il completamento); infine il New York Merchandise Mart (Emery Roth & Sons, 1974), tipico e asettico parallelepipedo "International-Style" simile a innumerevoli altri edificati tra gli anni '50 e i '70 (qui appare nero come il monolite di 2001, in realtà vetri e profili sono color bronzo, chiaramente ispirati al Seagram di Mies). Veramente l'edificio più interessante di questa piazza sarebbe il Flatiron Buiding di Daniel Burnham (1902), che però si trovava in piena controluce, quindi le foto mi sono venute bruttarelle.
