Il chiurlo è inconfondibile !
é tra i limicoli uno dei più grandi ed ha il becco ricurvo verso il basso.
La sagoma da molto lontano potrebbe essere confusa con il Mignattaio che è più grande ed ha un colore marron scuro con riflessi verde metallico.
Il chiurlo in questo periodo si trova spesso in stormi in mezzo al salicornieto, o lungo piccoli canali e spiagge dello stagno, perchè si ciba principalmente di granchi, che cattura con una tecnica singolare, quasi chirurgica.
Infatti riesce con movimenti rapidi e precisi a strappargli le chele una alla volta per poi ingoiarlo senza avere problemi di lesioni gastriche.
