Nome scientifico: Maniola jurtina (Linnaeus 1758) Nome comune Iurtina Dimensioni: ali anteriori 22-25 mm, apertura alare 4 - 5,5 cm Descrizione della specie: Lepidottero di medie dimensioni caratterizzato dalla livrea marrone-scuro e con sulle ali anteriori un ocello preapicale con pupilla, presente anche sulla pagina inferiore ove spicca sul colore di fondo ocra. Le ali posteriori presentano, di sotto, una colorazione giallo-grigia più uniforme nel maschio, marcata, nella femmina, da una fascia postdiscale chiara contenente una serie di puntini scuri Questa comunissima specie presenta numerose sotto-specie e varietà descritte. I maschi sono in genere più piccoli e più scuri. Il lato inferiore, con ali anteriori arancioni e posteriori prevalentemente brune, è simile nei due sessi, ma con il contrasto fra le zone chiare e scure più marcato nella femmina. Il bruco è verde con lunghi peli bianchi e con linee gialle lungo i fianchi. Testa verde-bluastra. Conduce attività notturna nutrendosi di Graminacee (Poa, Agrostis, Bromus ecc.).
