La serie della Monument per me ha un valore particolare perchè era un luogo che avevo programmato di non vedere per mancanza di tempo. Domenica notte dormivo a Page e lunedì pomeriggio alle 17 avevo un aereo da Phoenix (500 km a sud) , deviare a est 200 km in una mezza giornata mi sembrava troppo.
Preso però dai miei soliti raptus piazzo la sveglia alle 3 di notte e parto da Page sperando di beccare l'alba alla Monument Valley. Dopo 50 km di strada mi ero scoraggiato perchè c'era stata una nevicata, la strada solitaria era completamente bianca di neve e ghiaccio e avevo davanti altri 150 km così, già mi vedevo fuori-strada ad aspettare l'alba e un passante misericordioso visto che i cellulari non prendono in quei posti.
In realtà pian piano, con la dovuta prudenza mi avvicino sempre più alla meta e in perfetto orario alle 6 mi ritrovo completamente solo alle primissime luci, per di più premiato dalla presenza di qualche nuvola. Gli altri 500 km verso Phoenix sono stati pesantucci ma decisamente ne è stravalsa la pena :)
