Purtroppo queste creature vivono , per mimetizzarsi al meglio , a stretto contatto con il fondo e con quanto c'è di sessile che possa nasconderli, talvolta fingendosi delle loro protuberanze .Ancora di più i soggetti giovani , molto più vulnerabili , tendono a non allontanarsi da quanto può occultarli alla vista dei predatori e per i fotografi non è facile isolarli , a meno di non disturbarli eccessivamente, magari spostandoli, con il rischio che poi qualche predatore li possa individuare.
