Santuario dei tre Santi - San Fratello (Me) - Luogo molto suggestivo dove ogni anno si svolge una particolarissima festa dedicata, per l'appunto, ai tre Santi: Alfio, Cirino e Filadelfio...San Fratello possedeva in passato un notevole patrimonio di tradizioni, di cui però molte sono già scomparse e altre stanno scomparendo per l'opera di demolizione che inesorabilmente compiono i cambiamenti dei costumi, i mezzi della comunicazione di massa, la globalizzazione stessa. Ciò nonostante, quella della Festa dei Tre Santi è la più vistosa, la più significativa e la più resistente. Il 10 maggio di ogni anno - ricorrenza del martirio degli aristocratici fratelli Alfio, Filadelfio e Cirino - la statua di uno di loro e il prezioso reliquiario vengono portati in processione dalla chiesa Madre al santuario a loro dedicato: un complesso monumentale di età normanna (XII sec.), costruito sopra la cripta nella quale vennero trovati i corpi dei tre martiri. Pare che li avessero traslati in questo sito, sopra il cosiddetto monte "Vecchio", i monaci basiliani di San Filippo di Fragalà (Frazzanò) per sottrarli alle devastazioni arabe. Contiguo alla chiesetta venne innalzato in epoca più tarda (IV-XV sec.) un modesto convento nel quale fino alla fine del 1940 viveva ancora un frate cercatore. Classificato come monumento nazionale, questo edificio, recentemente restaurato, è una delle testimonianze architettoniche più importanti della presenza dei Basiliani in provincia di Messina. In questo santuario, dunque, vengono portati a spalla ogni anno sia il simulacro sia le reliquie dei Tre Santi. Tradizione vuole, però, che la processione sia preceduta da un corteo di cavalli e cavalieri locali, rappresentati dai numerosi allevatori sanfratellani dei Nebrodi. Anche questi cavalli sono di origine normanna, come i fondatori del borgo, e costituiscono una razza a sé, denominata appunto "Sanfratellana". La cavalcata, che non manca di spettacolarità, aggiunge solennità al rito, ma diventa anche in questa circostanza un'occasione per esibire spavalderia, bravura ed esuberanza da parte dei giovani domatori. La celebrazione della messa nella cappella del santuario si conclude - così impone la tradizione stessa! - con una sagra paesana, una sorta di scampagnata che vuole essere anche un inno alla primavera e al piacere della buona tavola, anzi della tavolata.
