Fiume Simeto (Sicilia orientale), maggio 2009: adulto di Pollo sultano (Porphyrio porphyrio). Estintosi in Sicilia negli anni Cinquanta del secolo scorso, questo splendido rallide è stato reintrodotto fra il 2000 e il 2003 con progressivi rilasci di individui provenienti dalla Spagna. I polli sultani iberici hanno ben presto cominciato a riprodursi: cosicché, nell'arco di pochi anni, si è instaurata una popolazione consistente, che ha mostrato ottima capacità di espansione nel territorio, colonizzando anche aree non inserite nel progetto di reintroduzione. Il merito di avere restituito alla Sicilia questo capolavoro della Natura va alla LIPU e all'INFS (oggi ISPRA), che hanno promosso il progetto - Foto scattata dall'auto con appoggio - No crop
